Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale) has had a small accident at his home that will keep him out of racing for two weeks.

The Frenchman suffered an accident in Vence, French Riviera, that left him with consequences that include a cut and a small muscle injury on his left forearm, which required stitches.

Team medical manager Dr Enric Bouvat said that he will have to wear a splint for two weeks, which will keep him out of training for two weeks and takes him out of the Ruta del Sol. "It's never nice to get hurt, especially at home," the rider commented.

"It's annoying, but it's just a small setback. We are only at the beginning of February, I have trained very well since my break in November, and I have clocked up 6,000 kilometres since then. The GP La Marseillaise (8th) confirmed my good feelings. It's just a shame; when the team, like Tony Gallopin in Béssèges, is very successful, to have to slow down my own preparation a little is annoying."

Bardet stresses that the injury is nothing to be worried about. "My injury is more embarrassing than serious, and I will continue to keep up my training before returning to competition very quickly."
