Alejandro Valverde of Movistar will ride both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España this year, according to the Twitter account of La Vuelta.

The Spaniard, who on Sunday won the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, as such returns to the Tour de France once year after his heavy crash in the prologue of the 2017 edition. Valverde's season came to a premature end as a result, but the rider appears to be fully recovered.

The 2018 Tour de France will be Valverde's 11th, and the seventh in a row. The 37-year-old said in Valencia that he aims to help teammate Nairo Quintana in the French race, amidst speculation about the hierarchy at the Spanish team.

In the Vuelta, Valverde will make his 12th appearance, having won the race in 2009 as well as securing five more podium finishes.

With four stage victories in the Tour de France and no less than nine in the Vuelta a España, Valverde will aim to add even more wins to his palmares in the 2018 editions of the two grand tours.
