After winning the opening stage of Colombia Oro y Paz on Wednesday, Quick-Step Floors rider Fernando Gaviria was once again the strongest on the second day of racing.

The stage once again started and finished in the city of Palmira, although the course was now 183.4 kilometers long rather than the 99.9 kilometers of the first stage, and led the peloton further away from the town.

It took more than an hour for a breakaway to be formed. A group of six riders including Manzana Postobon's Juan Felipe Osorio never gained much space though and were reeled in ahead of the final.

Quick-Step Floors controlled the peloton in the last kilometers, with Max Richeze launching Gaviria for the Colombian to take his second win in a row and as such extend his lead in the overall classification.

Juan Sebastian Osorio of Manzana Postobon and Matteo Malucelli of Androni-Sidermec-Bottecchia came in second and third respectively.
