Alexandre Geniez of AG2R La Mondiale has won the prologue of the Tour la Provence, beating compatriots Sylvain Chavanel and Christophe Laporte in a race against the clock.
The prologue was 5.8 kilometers long and took place in the town of Castellet. Laporte, riding for Cofidis, set a strong time early on the day, stopping the clock after six minutes and 51 seconds.
Sylvain Chavanel of Direct Energie was slightly faster than Laporte, but had to settle for second place as Geniez, the last man to start, needed a mere two seconds less to complete the course.
This is already the second win this season for Geniez, who also finished first in the Grand Prix d'Ouverture La Marseillaise late last month.
The Frenchman finished third in the overall classification of the 2017 Tour la Provence.
