The Amstel Gold Race has changed part of its course for its 2018 edition. The event wants to have more exciting results.

Apparently, for the Dutch race, the reduction of the number of riders in the peloton isn't enough to make things more exciting, as it wants to add even more thrill to the course.

The route for the 2018 edition of the event was presented and it shows that the course of the last kilometres has been changed to take the riders to the end through narrower paths.

The last part, after the ascent to the Geulhemmeberg, won't take the riders to Maastricht on the wide way of Rasberg but on the Kuitenbergweg road. After this, the route continues to Bemelen, where the riders face the ascent of the Bemeleberg and then turns to the left to the Sibberweg.

"With this change, we are looking at narrower roads, which makes the control by the peloton more difficult," said race director Leo van Vliet. "In 2017 we already saw a more attractive race due to a simple change.

"This new change means that the riders that want to fight for the victory will have to position themselves well before the last kilometres or have attacked beforehand."

The Dutch race will take place on Sunday, the 15th of April.
