Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) will make his season debut at the Abu Dhabi Tour. The 2017 Giro d'Italia winner will be leading the team's GC ambitions.

Team Sunweb will head to the Abu Dhabi Tour with the intentions of getting a good GC result with Dumoulin and stage victories at the bunch sprints with Phil Bauhaus. "The Abu Dhabi Tour will see Wilco (Kelderman) and Tom make their season debut," said coach Aike Visbeek.

"We line up with a strong team to support our GC ambitions with Tom, as well as our goal for stage results with Phil. The first three stages typically end with a sprint; on these stages, we need to stay sharp on the crosswind sections and keep both Tom and Phil in a good position going into the final."

Dumoulin will try to make a difference in the Individual Time Trial of Stage 4 and on the last stage, which features a final climb of 11 kilometres that features maximum gradients of 11%. "The decisive stages for the GC will be stage 4; the 15-kilometre time trial and stage 5 with the final climb up Jebel Hefeet," Visbeek explained.

"With the hard stages coming at the end of the race and to avoid unnecessary time loss on the flat stages, we need to remain completely focused from start to finish."

Team Sunweb's complete roster for the Abi Dhabi Tour:

Nikias Arndt
Phil Bauhaus
Tom Dumoulin
Johannes Fröhlinger
Lennard Hofstede
Wilco Kelderman
Mike Teunissen
