Elia Viviani (Quick-Step Floors) is the new leader of the Abu Dhabi Tour after taking the victory at the second stage.

Stage two at the Abu Dhabi race was 154 kilometres long and took place on Yas Island. The escape of the day was formed by Joey Rosskopf (BMC), Tonelli (Bardiani CSF), Charles Planet (Novo Nordisk), Venter (Dimension Data) and Porsev (Gazprom Rusvelo), but it was caught soon due to a very motivated peloton that was fighting against the wind.

The hard winds caused breaks in the pack, making riders like Alexander Kristoff and Viviani himself fight to connect back to the front part of the peloton. Reaching the last kilometres of the stage, the two groups got together and sentenced the stage to a bunch sprint.

Viviani's hard work to get back to the front didn't seem to have diminished his energy to fight for the stage. The Italian was perfectly positioned by Quick-Step Floors and got his opportunity to celebrate, crossing the finish line just ahead of LottoNL-Jumbo's Danny van Poppel and Bora-hansgrohe's Pascal Ackermann.

The Quick-Step rider also tops the General Classification.
