Phil Bauhaus (Team Sunweb) was the winner of a very close bunch sprint in the third stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour. The rider had to wait for the photo finish results to celebrate his victory.

The third stage of the race was the last chance for the sprinters. The route was 133 kilometres long between Nation Towers and Big Flag, and the day featured some crosswinds that caused echelons like the day before, but everything was soon put under control by a strong peloton.

The breakaway of the day was formed by four riders: Sam Brand (Novo Nordisk), Serguei Firsanov (Gazprom Rusvelo), Marco Maronese (Bardiani CSF) and Pierre Rolland (EF Education First-Drapac), who created a gap of more than two minutes with the pack. This group was caught with 50 kilometres to go, after which the peloton started the fight against the wind, which caused a few breaks in the group.

The peloton rejoined at around the 30-kilometre mark and headed all together to a bunch sprint. The last meters were very fast and the stage victory came to a very close fight that had to be checked in a photo finish.

Sunweb's Phil Bauhaus crossed the finish line just ahead of Katusha-Alpecin's Marcel Kittel and Bora-hansgrohe's Pascal Ackermann. Elia Viviani, who finished fourth, keeps leading the General Classification ahead of the Individual Time Trial on the fourth day of the race.
