Dutch rider Sam Oomen will be leading the GC goals of Team Sunweb at Paris-Nice. The young talent is expected to make a difference in the second half of the French race.

The first stage race of the WorldTour on the European calendar will take place between the 4th and the 11th of March, starting with hilly stages and finishing on mountainous terrains.

Phil Bauhaus and Edward Theuns will have the leadership of Sunweb on their shoulders during the first part of the race. "Paris-Nice can be broken down into two parts with the early stages giving some opportunities to the faster riders, a time trial in the middle of the race and then the harder mountain stages coming in the last days where the GC will be decided," explained coach Luke Roberts.

"The early stages all contain some level of difficulty with uphill sprints and climbs in the finals, Phil and Edward are both showing great form and they will fly the flag for the team in the early stages, with Roy and Mike providing a high level of support to guide them."

Oomen, who was 4th and 1st respectively in the Youth Classifications of the Santos Tour Down Under and the Volta ao Algarve, will be the main man of the team for the mountain stages. "When the race heads towards the mountains our youngster, Sam, will aim to be at the pointy end of the bike race, with Chris (Hamilton) and debutant Louis (Vervaeke) backing him up," Roberts commented.

"The GC will take shape during the stage 4 time trial and stage 7 mountaintop finish but won’t be decided until the riders cross the line in Nice."
