Rudy Molard has won the sixth stage of Paris-Nice. The rider of Groupama-FDJ finished just ahead of a large chase group.

The sixth stage of the French race was 198 kilometres long between Sisteron and Vence. At the start of the day, six riders managed to escape from the peloton: Lars Bak (Lotto-Soudal), Amael Moinard (Fortuneo), Paul Martens (Lotto-Jumbo), Cyril Lemoine (Cofidis), Tom Scully (Education First) and Fabien Grellier (Direct Energie).

This group was followed by another one that included riders like Alexander Kristoff (Katusha-Alpecin), Thomas De Gendt (Lotto-Soudal) and Arnaud Demare (Groupama-FDJ). It took the chasers only some kilometres to join those in front and together they created a gap of three minutes with the peloton.

As the kilometres and the climbs passed, the front group got smaller and the pack got closer until at 25 kilometres to go, everything was back together. The final climb had attacks from riders like Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott), Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors) and Wout Poels (Team Sky).

Luck was not on the side of Poels as he crashed on the last descent, suffering injuries that took him out of the race. Meanwhile, seven riders joined Alaphilippe and Yates in front. Rudy Molard (Groupama-FDJ) attacked at the right moment and crossed the finish line ahead of Lotto Soudal's Tim Wellens and Alaphilippe.

Astana's Luis Leon Sanchez managed to keep the leader's jersey for another day.
