Team Sky's Wout Poels has suffered a fracture of the collarbone as a result of a crash he suffered during the sixth stage of Paris-Nice.
The Dutchman hit the deck during the last descent of the stage while he was in a good position to improve from the second position he had in the overall standing. "I just couldn’t hold on in that corner anymore. I’d gone full into it," said the rider.
"It’s so disappointing because I had been feeling really, really good. But that’s life sometimes."
It is still unclear how long Poels will be unable to race and his further plans for the season will be decided in the next days. "I’ll make a plan now with the doctors about what to do with my collarbone. I had planned to have a period of rest after Paris-Nice anyway, so we will see," he commented.
"At least I can take the TT win out of the race - that's something. Now hopefully Sergio (Henao) can finish it off for the team."
