Rigoberto Uran will not start in the Volta a Catalunya. EF Education First-Drapac has announced the absence of the rider through its Twitter account.

A spring illness has affected the Colombian, who was set to be one of the leaders of the team at the Spanish race. "Lots of teams hard hit by illness this spring. We've managed to avoid most of it until now: Rigoberto Uran is sick and will miss the Volta a Catalunya," said the team on Twitter.

Uran was one of the candidates to take the final victory in Barcelona, along with his fellow-countrymen Nairo Quintana (Movistar), Sergio Henao (Sky) and Esteban Chaves (Mitchelton-Scott).

The rider will be replaced by another Colombian, Daniel Martinez, who will make his debut on the WorldTour calendar with his new team.
