Alejandro Valverde skips Tour of Flanders

Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) has decided to go back to Spain and dismissed his participation in the Tour of Flanders.
Up until Dwars door Vlaanderen, the Spaniard had entertained the thought of appearing in the Belgian Monument but he had already confirmed that he won't ride the race. "We evaluated that possibility and it went from 'no' to 'yes' and back again," said the rider to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.
"In the end, we decided to go back home and ride the GP Miguel Indurain on Saturday. So I won't ride the Tour of Flanders and my mission remains to help (Mikel) Landa and (Nairo) Quintana in the Tour de France."
The rider appeared in Dwars door Vlaanderen along with Quintana to have the opportunity to be on the cobbles in relatively safe racing conditions to prepare for the cobbled stage that will feature in the 2018 Tour de France.
