Groupama-FDJ's Rudy Molard suffered a crash at the third stage of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco that could hinder his goals for the General Classification.

The Frenchman is now sixth in the overall classification and he was expecting to have a good performance in the Individual Time Trial that would allow him to finish in the top five, an objective he had for the race. But a crash during the day's stage could put a stop to his dreams, as Sports Director Yvon Madiot explained.

"Some guys fell in front of him and he fell over the bike, hurting his hip," he commented. "He finished with the pack, taking the 11th place in the stage won by (Jay) McCarthy but tonight doctor Olivier Laroche is a little worried.

"Rudy has a big hematoma on the femoral head. He couldn't put his leg up and he had to hop to get on the bus. That's not a good sign, indeed."

The Sports Director added that the team has its fingers crossed to see how the rider feels the next morning. If the rider feels good to continue, he will also continue to fight for a spot in the top five of the General Classification.
