Spanish cyclist David Belda has received a suspension of four years after failing a doping test in the spring of 2017.

Belda, then riding for Professional Continental team Burgos BH, failed the test in March of last year. The exact circumstances of the result were never confirmed although the rider is presumed to have tested positively for EPO.

Spanish website Ciclo 21 now reports that the rider, son of former Kelme boss Vicente Belda, was suspended for four years by the Spanish Agency for Protection of Health in Sports (AEPSAD).

The rider was suspended in May, when the positive result was announced, meaning that one quarter of his total suspension has already passed. The date of his possible return to the peloton has been set to April 26th of 2021. The rider is currently 35 years old however, so a return to professional cycling may no longer be an option by then.

Belda began his professional career at Fuerteventura-Canarias in 2007 and has since represented Boyaca Orgullo de America, Burgos 2016-Castilla y Leon and Team Roth, before joining Burgos BH at the start of 2017.
