Bahrain-Merida is starting in the Tour de Romandie with a team supporting two strong riders that intent to improve from past performances in the race.

The Swiss race mixes time trial kilometres with high climbs that are very demanding. Last year, Ion Izagirre scored a top 10 result in the general classification and in 2018 he will be back to improve from that.

"I’m arriving from the Ardennes classics and I'm here to try to improve the fifth place of the last edition," said the Spaniard. "There are many good uphill and time trial opponents, but I think I can do well."

Enrico Gasparotto will be the second card for the team. "The Romandie is a race that I've always liked," said the Italian. "Looking at the race route I think I have a couple of opportunities. Yesterday's sixth place at Liège has confirmed to me that the condition is good and therefore I hope to get a good result here in Switzerland."

Bahrain-Merida's line-up for the Tour de Romandie (24th to 29th of April):

Ion Izagirre
Gorka Izagirre
Enrico Gasparotto
Sonny Colbrelli
Ramunas Navardauskas
Hermann Pernsteiner
Kristijan Koren
