FDJ-Nouvelle Aquitaine-Futuroscope's Lauren Kitchen will miss the Tour of Chongming Island but hopes to return for the Grand Prix de Plumelec-Morbihan.

The Australian rider suffered a heavy fall during the Amstel Gold Face that affected her arm and part of her face. "One week after the crash, I feel a lot better, each day my face is a lot better," she commented. "My arm isn’t painful so I’m happy so far with the recovery."

Kitchen fell during a descent straight into her face and arm, but she doesn't have any recollections of the moment. " I don’t remember anything about the crash at all," she explained.

"From my injuries I imagine I didn’t react at all, landing on my face without moving my hands from the handlebars, my knuckles are quite cut up. I remember very little after the crash until Cedric was in the hospital."

She was set to appear at the upcoming WorldTour race of the Tour of Chongming Island, but her recovery is taking longer than expected. "The recovery is going to be longer than I hoped for. However Plumelec and Morbihan are 6 weeks after the crash, I hope to be fit and clear by the doctor to start there. But until then I have a lot of time on the Elite home-trainer."

The 1.1 race will take place on the 26th of May.
