Different ambitions for Bahrain-Merida at Giro d'Italia

Bahrain-Merida will be led by Domenico Pozzovivo for the general classification at the upcoming 101st Giro d'Italia.

The team unveiled its selection on Friday. While Pozzovivo is set to be the main man for the classification, there will be other options to focus on with Niccolo Bonifazio fighting for the sprints and Giovanni Visconti aiming for hilly stages. Matej Mohoric is the team's "jolly joker" and will get chances to go for his own success.

"After last year's 100th edition and a debut of our team at the Giro and our best rider, Vincenzo Nibali taking the third place on the podium in the general classification, we are here again with highly motivated team to be at the start of the Giro with a competitive 'squadra' that is in a good shape," said head Sports Director Alberto Volpi.

The Italian believes that the riders will need to be focused right from the opening time trial.

"The Jerusalem start will be challenging and requires concentration from the very beginning. Our riders are ready to compete, no matter that we are not one of the favorites for the GC and I think this is a gaining point."
