Team Sky's Egan Bernal was the fastest at the time trial of the third stage of the Tour de Romandie. Primoz Roglic was second on the day and keeps leading the General Classification.

The third stage of the race was an individual time trial in Ollon-Villars that covered 9.9 kilometres on a climbing route with a slope that reached 785 meters. The winner of the time trial of the prologue, Michael Matthews didn't start in the stage because of fatigue.

Early on the day, one of the first riders to get in the leader's hot seat was Michael Storer (Sunweb), who completed the route in 27 minutes and 44 seconds. Minutes later, UAE Team Emirates' Kristijan Durasek stopped the clock at 27 minutes and five seconds and became the provisional leader of the stage.

Riders like Simon Spilak (Katusha-Alpecin), Daniel Martin (UAE Team Emirates) and Steven Kruijswijk (LottoNL-Jumbo) also spent some time in the leader's position. Then, BMC's Richie Porte completed the course in 25 minutes and 28 seconds, 30 seconds faster than Kruijswijk.

The next rider to set the best time in the time trial was Egan Bernal (Sky), who finished the route in 25 minutes and 10 seconds. Race leader Primoz Roglic (LottoNL-Jumbo) was only four seconds slower than Bernal and stays on top of the General Classification.
