German Lisa Klein of Canyon-SRAM has won the prologue of the Festival Elsy Jacobs in Luxembourg.

The prologue, taking place in the town of Cessange, was only 2.8 kilometers long but did include short uphill stretch at the start, adding to the level of difficulty.

Unlike the previous edition of the UCI 2.1 race, the weather for this prologue was particularly sunny and this allowed the participants to reach their top speed. In the case of winner Klein, this was an average of 42 kilometers an hour for a time of four minutes exactly.

"I was really concentrated to not make the same mistakes as in the prologue last year. I have to say I had good legs, I felt it already in the warm-up. I’m very pleased!!" said Klein after her victory.

Dutchwoman Amy Pieters of Boels-Dolmans was second at less than a second, and Danish Cervelo-Bigla rider Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig completed the top three at one second from Klein.

As such, Klein (21 years old) also put on the leader's jersey at the end of the day and will defend her lead on Saturday in a 97.7km stage in and around Steinfort. The race finishes after the second stage on Sunday.
