Mitchelton-Scott's Simon Yates has won his second stage at the 2018 edition of the Giro d'Italia, but he thinks the efforts of the day were not good enough.

The rider has been insisting on taking every second possible ahead of the Individual Time Trial in which Tom Dumoulin is set to win some time on him. "I'm trying, I keep trying to take some time," Yates said to the Italian broadcaster RAI at the end of the stage.

"It was a really tough finish with the climb on the pave. Tom was chasing me all the way to the line so it has been very difficult but I'm happy that I could get some more time."

Yates won more time on riders like Chris Froome and Fabio Aru, but his mind is on one rider only. "With Froome, I already had a good gap, I need time on Dumoulin and he was second," he explained.

"So I'm happy that I get the time, I'm happy that I won the stage but as always I will have to keep trying because I still don't have enough. I gave everything there to get some time but it was only a small gain."
