Chris Froome lost some more time to the top GC contenders in the 11th stage of the Giro d'Italia, and admitted that his crash ahead of the opening time trial did affect him.

The Team Sky rider finished the stage at 40 seconds from winner and race leader Simon Yates, dropping back out of the top ten of the general classification as a result.

"It was a tough day. It wasn't as long, but after yesterday's stage that was a pretty brutal little finish," he told Eurosport's Jonathan Edwards.

Asked about the crash he suffered while exploring the course of the time trial in Israel, the Briton admitted that it did have a negative effect.

"I'm not gonna lie. It took a whack out of me, that crash, before the start in Jerusalem. I've had a lot of pain down my right hand side. In this game if you're not at your absolute best there's no way to hide, or you can only hide it for so long as we've seen. But I'm still progressing throughout the race, still just chipping away and hoping to do the best I can.

"I'm gonna keep fighting. It's good to get this racing in the legs. I haven't done much racing this year so it's good to get the racing in. I've certainly not given up hope. We saw yesterday with Esteban (Chaves), how quickly this race can change for any one of those GC riders. So I'm gonna keep plugging away. The team is motivated, I'm motivated and I'm going to do as much as I can."

On a bright note, Froome is happy to see his compatriot Yates performing as well as he is. "He is flying and I'm genuinely happy for him. It's amazing to see another Brit in the Pink Jersey and he's got a really strong chance of winning it."
