Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) was second on the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia. The rider couldn't get the victory but got some time on his direct rivals in the General Classification.

The rider tried his best to get to the stage winner, Chris Froome, and take the victory but it was impossible. "I'm happy and disappointed at the same time," said the rider to Italian broadcaster RAI at the end of the stage.

"I just couldn't get to Chris and go for the final on the stage. I was just chasing hard. I didn't have it but I'm happy I got some time on the guys that were closer to me on GC. So it was a good day."

The next stage also features heavy climbs that could create some more differences. "Maybe, especially after today and this extremely difficult climb," Yates explained. "Tomorrow is also very very hard and I already said before that maybe tomorrow we will see more gaps."
