Fernando Gaviria has won the final stage in the Tour of California. The Team Quick-Step rider beat Max Walscheid and Caleb Ewan in the group sprint. Egan Bernal wins the general classification after taking the leader's jersey from Tejay Van Garderen yesterday.

Stage 7 was a flat stage in and around Sacramento, over a course of 143 kilometres. Early in the stage a breakaway formed with Neilson Powless (LottoNL-Jumbo), Adam De Vos (Rally Cycling), Mikkel Bjerg (Hagens Berman Axeon) and Jonny Clarke (UnitedHealthcare).

The break got a maximum advantage of 3 minutes, before Sky pulled them back in service of yellow jersey Egan Bernal. With 4 kilometres to go the break was caught, and the sprinters teams lined up for the final sprint in this year's Tour of California.

Katusha-Alpecin showed their strength to lead out Marcel Kittel in the final 2 kilometres. They were too early though, and Gaviria was again led out in pole position by his Quick-Step team. Even though it shortly looked like Walscheid (Team Sunweb) came up from behind to take the win, the Colombian won it by a minimal margin. His fellow countryman Egan Bernal wins the overall classification, ahead of Tejay Van Garderen and Daniel Martinez.

For Gaviria this was his third win this week in the Tour of California, and his seventh win of the season.
