Sabrina Stultiens (WaowDeals) has won the first stage of the Emakumeen XXXI. Bira. The Dutchwoman launched a late attack and crossed the finish line on her own.

The first stage of the Spanish race was 108 kilometres long and featured three climbs of the third category, starting and finishing in Legazpi. The group remained compact well into the stage with sporadic attacks that didn't succeed.

In the last descent, Anna van der Breggen (Boels-Dolmans), Annemiek van Vleuten (Mitchelton-Scott), Sabrina Stultiens and Ashleigh Moolman (Cervelo-Bigla) took the lead. With seven kilometres to go, van Vleuten dropped the other two riders and went ahead on her own.

A few kilometres later, Stultiens got to van Vleuten and attacked, getting a considerable gap that allowed her to cross the finish line on her own. The 24-year-old also took the lead in the General Classification.
