Annemiek van Vleuten has won the time trial on the second day of racing at the Emakumeen XXXI. Bira in Spain.

The time trial course was 26.6 kilometers long and turned out to be a perfect prey for the world champion at this discipline, Mitchelton-Scott's Van Vleuten.

The Dutchwoman completed the route in exacty 34 minutes and was 14 seconds faster than Boels-Dolmans' Anna van der Breggen and a solid 53 seconds faster than South African Ashleigh Moolman Pasio of Cervelo-Bigla Pro Cycling.

Interviewed during her cooling-down, Van Vleuten mentioned the importance of taking this win in the World Champions Jersey she earned in Bergen last year.

"Winning in the World Champion's Jersey, I did it already in Australia when it was a short time trial, but it's nice to win in a European race. It's a special one," she said.

Unsurprisingly, Van Vleuten is also the new leader in the general classification at the expense of opening stage winner Sabrina Stultiens.
