The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has announced that the 2018 edition will be the last of the Team Time Trial World Championships and offered two relevant updates on the competition.

The team time trial of the 2018 Road World Championships in Innsbruck will be the last of its kind and all 18 UCI WorldTour teams and the top 15 UCI Women's teams will be automatically invited to take part along with the top-ranked UCI Professional Continental and UCI Continental teams.

The cycling governing body has also announced that the prize money for men's and women's teams will be equal.

Considering that this will be the last edition of the event in the World Championships, the UCI will soon review the program for the 2019 Road World Championships in collaboration with the Yorkshire organising committee.

In the championships of Bergen 2017, only eleven teams of the men's and nine of the women's WorldTour participated in the team time trial event. Both events were won by Sunweb.
