Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Floors) has taken the victory at the first stage of the Tour des Fjords. The rider conquered the 34th victory for the team in the 2018 season.

The first stage of the Norwegian race was 191 kilometres long between Lindesnes and Grimstad. The breakaway of the day was formed by Carlos Verona (Mitchelton-Scott), Henrik Evensen (Joker Icopal), Frantisek Sisr (CCC), Daniel Pearson (Aqua Blue Sport) and Floris Gerts (Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij) and got a lead of more than two minutes on the peloton.

Behind them, Quick-Step took the responsibility of setting the pace to force a final sprint and was joined by Sky in the last seventy kilometres. The escapees were caught just past the 10-kilometre mark and the peloton rode at a very high speed heading to the final.

There was a crash in the last 400 metres involving Sondre Holst Enger (Israel Cycling Academy) but this didn't affect the Quick-Step lead train that took Fabio Jakobsen to the final metres for him to take the 34th victory of the season for the Belgian team. Lotto-Soudal's Moreno Hofland was second and LottoNL-Jumbo's Timo Roosen was third.
