The ranking of the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia has changed due to penalties given to riders that drafted behind race vehicles or other riders.

One of the surprises of the day was the performance of Fabio Aru (UAE Team Emirates) but he was penalised with 20 seconds, going from the sixth to the eight place of the day's standings.

His teammates Valerio Conti and Diego Ulissi received more severe punishments and were penalised with two minutes each, dropping to the spots 150 and 45 respectively.

Trek-Segafredo Mads Pedersen was also punished with a 30-seconds penalty and dropped from the 12th place to the 19th.

Ben Hermans (Israel Cycling Academy) and Remi Cavagna (Quick-Step Floors) also received a 30 seconds punishment.
