Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) has kept the Pink Jersey for another day but has lost half of the advantage that he had on Tom Dumoulin ahead of another climbing day.

The rider couldn't hold on to an attack made by Chris Froome and followed by Dumoulin and Domenico Pozzovivo, losing 28 seconds at the end of the day. "I was just tired," said the Briton to Italian broadcaster RAI. "There are still the next few days to go so I gotta bounce back, so no worries."

The next stage has four climbs and a mountain finish but Yates has clear what he feels at the moment. "I'm not worried," he explained. "I'm still in front from what I understand and that is better than being behind. We will wait until tomorrow and then we will see what happens.

"We will have to see what other teams do. I think tomorrow is much better for me than today. Today was one big massive effort. Tomorrow there are more climbs and for me, that is better. The more climbing the better for me, so we will see."
