Bjorg Lambrecht has won the third stage in the Tour of Norway. The Lotto-Soudal rider beat Michael Albasini and Edvald Boasson Hagen in a sprint uphill. This is the first professional victory for the young Belgian.

This afternoon, 116 riders left Farsund for the third and final stage of the Tour of Norway. The stage took the peloton over 184 kilometre course over a difficult course, with a lot of climbing all day long. The first task already appeared after only 23 kilometres, with the Ravneheia climb (1,2 km at 10%).

After a fierce opening it became clear that the breakaway would have a hard time today. Despite many attacks, the peloton started the Ravneheia all together, but the steep ascent broke the bunch into three groups. After the climb they regrouped and the race settled down a little. Meanwhile Carlos Verona (Mitchelton-Scott) was the first rider on top of the climb, consolidating his lead in the mountains classification.

After the climb, a break finally managed to get away. Julien Bernard (Trek-Segafredo), Maxime Monfort (Lotto-Soudal), Luis Mas (Caja Rural) and Nathan Earle (Israel Cycling Academy) were the first to escape, later followed by Nikolay Mihaylov (Delko Marseille) and Julián Cardona (EF Education First). The break got a maximum advantage of 3:45 back to a peloton led by Mitchelton-Scott.

On the second KOM of the day, Bernard took the points. Because of this Verona was sure to take home the KOM jersey, yet Mitchelton-Scott was not satisfied as they kept chasing hard in the peloton. Monfort went solo on the climb to Helleren with 68 kilometres to go, but was soon joined by Early. They continued with two, just when four riders attacked from the peloton. Pieter Weening (Roompot), Owain Doull (Sky), Bjorg Lambrecht (Lotto-Soudal) and Brendan Canty (EF Education First) tried to bridge to the sole leader.

They did not manage to do so, and the peloton reeled them back with 50 km left. The situation then stabilised more or less, despite a wave of attacks from the peloton. Attacks kept flying even after the leaders were caught within 10 kilometres of the line. With a very fast pace the peloton headed for the uphill sprint in Egersund. Here Lambrecht turned out to be the fastest rider, ahead of Albasini and Boasson Hagen. The Belgian takes his first ever professional victory.
