Christophe Laporte has won the third stage of the Baloise Belgium Tour, an individual time trial with start and finish in Bornem.
At just 10.6km, the flat time trial course was a prey for the more explosive riders. Laporte, riding for Cofidis, completed the course in 12 minutes and 38 seconds and was five seconds faster than Astana's Andrei Grivko.
Third place went to Brian van Goethem of Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij, who needed seven seconds more to finish the course.
Lotto Soudal's Andre Greipel, who won the first two stages, needed 24 seconds more than Laporte and drops down to second place in the general classification, at four seconds from the Frenchman.
Laporte will now have to defend his leader's jersey in a hilly stage of 151.4 kilometers, starting and finishing in Wanze.
