Christophe Laporte has won the first stage of the Skoda Tour de Luxembourg. The Cofidis rider crossed the line ahead of Alex Kirsch and Andrea Pasqualon.
Following Wednesday's prologue, in which Direct Energie's Damien Gaudin took the win, the peloton now faced its first regular stage with a 186.7km route from Luxembourg capital to Hesperange.
Four riders, Jan-Willem van Schip, Lukas Meiler, Florian Nowak and Patryk Stosz, jumped away early on and created a gap of almost five minutes.
Van Schip attacked from the breakaway as the peloton began to close the gap, but he too was reeled back in with four kilometers left to ride.
A crash occured at about one kilometer from the finish. This didn't affect the Cofidis train however, allowing Laporte to take the victory after a powerful sprint.
