Larry Warbasse (Aqua Blue Sport) is set to return to the Tour de Suisse. The rider got his first victory as a professional in the 2017 edition of the race.
The American national champion will return to the race to attempt to equal his 2017 result, which also gave the team its first victory. The rider will be joined at the Swiss race by Eddi Dunbar and Stefan Denifl, who won a stage in the 2017 Vuelta a España.
"Winning stage 4 of the Tour de Suisse last year was a huge thing for me," Warbasse said. "This year I will be targeting my best possible result, and it’s not unrealistic to think that another stage win is possible. I’m currently training at altitude, I believe I’m in good condition and I am really excited for this race.
"In terms of strategy, I think we will need to see how the race is playing out. I’ve looked at the stages and depending on the circumstances, a breakaway could potentially stick on literally any day. I’ll certainly be trying my hand to be part of a decisive move, and probably on more than one occasion."
After the race, Warbasse will return to the US to defend his title as the National champion. "It’s been a huge honour to wear the jersey this year and it’s another big goal of mine to keep it," he commented. "It’s going to be tough, but I have a great lead in to the race and it’s on the same course as last year, so I am looking forward to giving it my best shot.
"The team did a great job with the jersey last year and I think it looks good on me, so hopefully I can keep it in our hands!"
