Mitchelton-Scott's Jolien D'Hoore has won the opening stage at the OVO Energy Women's Tour. The Belgian champion was the fastest at the final sprint.

The first stage of the British race was 130 kilometres long over a mostly flat route between Framlingham and Southwold. The peloton stayed together for most of the stage, with some attempts of escape that were successfully repelled by the pack.

Boels-Dolmans' Amy Pieters took the most points in the day's intermediate sprints, so she will be wearing the Red Jersey on the second stage of the race. Her teammate, Christine Majerus, took the most points in the classified climbs of the day and became the first rider to top the Queen of the Mountains classification at the 2018 edition of the 2018 Women's Tour.

The race was very active in the last kilometres, just like at the beginning, with the peloton reacting quickly to any attack. At the last five kilometres, Boels-Dolmans took control of the pace at the front of the peloton trying to get a good advantage for the final sprint.

Belgian champion Jolien D'Hoore (Mitchelton-Scott) was the fastest on the day, making it two stages in a row for the rider considering that she also won the last stage at the 2017 edition of the race. Marta Bastianelli (Ale Cipollini) crossed the finish line in the second position and Sunweb's Coryn Rivera was third.
