Astana's Luis Leon Sanchez will ride the Giro'Italia-Tour de France double for the first time. The Spaniard is finishing his preparations for the Tour de France in the Route d'Occitanie.

"This will be the first time that I will do the Giro-Tour double before I've always done Giro-Vuelta (a España) or Tour-Vuelta," said the rider to Spanish magazine Ciclismo a Fondo. "We will see how it goes. This year we have one more week of rest."

The rider starts in the Tour de France with the objective of supporting Jakob Fuglsang. "He will be the main rider," Sanchez explained. "He is a rider with experience who knows how to ride, how to behave in the race. If he has the legs of last year in the Dauphine, we will be there helping him with everything we can."

After the French grand tour, the Spaniard will take part on his country's championships. "I will do the road race," he commented. "We all like to ride the championships of our country.

"I won't do the time trial because I don't want to push my body with too many competitions and I haven't trained much. I'm sure (Jonathan) Castroviejo will be at a great level."
