Groupama-FDJ has announced that Thibaut Pinot is not going to take part in the Tour de France. The rider was set to lead the team at the French grand tour but health problems are keeping him away from it.

Pinot was hospitalised at the end of the penultimate stage of the Giro d'Italia with high fever and severe dehydration and was later diagnosed with a pneumopathy. The rider hasn't been able to make a full recovery on time for the Grande Boucle.

"I am extremely disappointed because the Tour de France, the biggest race of the calendar, was a major goal of my season," the rider commented. "During the Giro d'Italia, I competed against the best until the end.

"I wanted to do the same at the Tour de France, I felt ready for it. Unfortunately, I can't be competitive. The decision is now taken, but I'm already motivated and turned to new goals."

Pinot will be replaced by young talent David Gaudu, who will be starting in the race for the first time. Now the focus of the team turns to support Arnaud Demare, who will fight for the points classification.
