AG2R La Mondiale's Clement Venturini has won the final sprint of the second stage at the Route d'Occitanie. The Frenchman was faster than race leader Nacer Bouhanni.
The second stage at the race was 173 kilometres long between Saint-Gaudens and Masseube Val-de-Gers over a rolling route. The breakaway of the day included riders like Jerome Cousin (Direct Energie), Johan Le Bon (Vital Concept) and Garikoitz Bravo (Euskadi-Murias), and it got an advantage of more than three minutes over the peloton.
The escapees resisted being reeled back in until the two-kilometre mark when the last one had to give up. Bouhanni was the first rider to launch the sprint but he wasn't strong enough and he almost crashed against Carlos Barbero (Movistar), a situation that Venturini used to his advantage.
Despite being second on the day, Bouhanni maintains the GC lead for another day.
