Stefan Küng (BMC) has set the best time at the closing Individual Time Trial in the Tour de Suisse. Richie Porte was one minute and four seconds slower than the stage winner, which was enough for him to take the overall victory.

The closing stage of the Swiss race was an Individual Time Trial of 34.1 kilometres in Bellinzona. One of the first riders to set the best time was Bora-hansgrohe's Maciej Bodnar, who stopped the clock at 40 minutes and 21 seconds.

Sunweb's Soren Kragh Andersen was the next to be on the hot seat of the best time, by completing the route in 40 minutes and three seconds. Not too long after, Stefan Küng (BMC), who led the race for four stages, set a time of 39 minutes and 44 seconds that no one was able to beat on the day.

Astana's Jakob Fuglsang managed to finish the course in 40 minutes and 22 seconds, taking the eighth place of the stage and climbing to the second spot of the overall classification. Nairo Quintana (Movistar) finished in the 38th position of the day at one minute and 59 seconds from Küng, which was enough to stay on the final podium of the race.

Race leader Richie Porte was the last to start the time trial and he finished the course in 40 minutes and 48 seconds, at one minute and four seconds from Küng, which allowed him to take the overall victory of the race.

Sunweb's Wilco Kelderman, who was at the third position in GC at the penultimate stage, dropped to the fifth position behind Quick-Step Floors' Enric Mas.
