Former German champion Mieke Kröger is unsure of her participation in the upcoming Giro Rosa. The rider of Virtu Cycling crashed out in the fourth stage of the 2018 OVO Energy Women's Tour.
The rider went out of the British race because of the injuries that resulted from the crash she suffered during the fourth stage. "I was eager to hit the initial breakaway on stage 4 and several other riders were having the same idea," the rider explained about the crash.
"Unfortunately, the fight for position on the front lead to a crash as a rider went straight into me and I had no time to break the fall. My collarbone broke in several places and I am to undergo surgery tomorrow."
Kröger was set to be in the selection of Virtu Cycling for the Giro Rosa that will take place between the 6th and the 15th of July. "The doctor expects I can start training on rollers again on Monday but it’s going to be a couple of weeks before I can be back on the road," she commented. "I don’t want to rush the recovery so I’m going to take the time the healing progress requires."
