Yves Lampaert has become the new Belgian champion. The rider attacked in the last four kilometres and crossed the finish line by himself.
The Belgian championships took place over a 223.6-kilometre route in Binche that featured four pavé sectors and a 500-metre cobbled climb at the last kilometre. The breakaway of the race was caught with 20 kilometres remaining and on the final lap, Lampaert and his teammate Philippe Gilbert made a move that was followed by Trek-Segafredo's Jasper Stuyven.
After some kilometres, Lampaert still had enough legs strength to launch a new attack that his companions couldn't repeal. The rider crossed solo the finish line, while Gilbert and Stuyven were second and third respectively.
"It's surreal, I can't believe it!" said the rider at the finish line." I feel so amazingly happy, it's such an incredible feeling, but I'll need some time to let things sink in. I am so proud of this team! We showed again how strong we are as a Wolfpack. We ride together, always for each other, and it's unbelievable to be part of this unique team."
