Chantal Blaak (Boels-Dolmans) has won the road race at the National Championships of the Netherlands for the second time in a row.

The World Champion attacked from a front group of 10 riders at the 10-kilometre mark. Nobody could follow her pace and she got on her own to the final line in Hoogerheide.

"Unbelievable. I did not expect this at all," said Blaak. "Before I was never a champion, and now I win the National title for a second consecutive year. The way we raced today really suits me. Amy (Pieters), Anna (van der Breggen) and I all benefit from a hard race. The course and especially the heat made it very tough.

"In the final, I just thought I’ll try it again and see what happens. I got a gap and I knew I had to finish it. Winning here in the rainbow jersey is very special. I am very happy with this title. I do not see myself becoming world champion again in Innsbruck, so it's nice to race in the national jersey next year."

Blaak's teammate Amy Pieters occupied the second spot of the final podium and European Champion Marianne Vos was third.
