Team Virtu Cycling is starting in the Giro Rosa with the main intention of chasing stage victories and show themselves in the team time trial.
The current team time trial champions of Denmark will not have their big specialists but will be at the opening stage at the starting ramp with enthusiasm. After that, each rider can fight to be in breakaways and for stage victories.
"We are looking forward to the race as it offers a wide range of opportunities for all riders on the team, and although we miss our time trial specialists, we are looking forward to being standing on the ramp for the team time trial on Friday," said Sports Director Carmen Small.
"We’ll be chasing stage victories and we will be aiming to ride aggressively. Barbara (Guarischi) is obviously very motivated because she is riding on home soil and she has good opportunities for making a top result on the flat stages. However, every rider on the team has equal opportunities to chase breakaways as we do not have a rider for the GC from the start of the race."
For Guarischi this race will have special moments. "It's always special to ride on home ground in Italy," she explained. "One of the stages will be close to my home and we will pass where I train every day so it's going to be great seeing friends and family along the roads.
"I feel strong and the training has run smoothly so personally, I’m looking forward to getting the chance for success. There are many strong teams on the start list, so it’s going to be difficult but I'm very motivated and ready for the race."
