Movistar team has been one of the teams that suffered the biggest consequences after the second Alpine stage of the Tour de France.

Nairo Quintana now stands in the ninth position of the general classification at three minutes and 16 seconds from race leader Geraint Thomas, Alejandro Valverde is in the eleventh position at four minutes and 28 seconds, and Mikel Landa is at two minutes and 56 seconds from the Sky rider.

"The day was very difficult for me," said Landa at the end of the stage. "During the first ascent I started feeling pain in my back and during the last one, I just couldn't follow the rhythm. Now we will have to evaluate the race, rest and see how we feel tomorrow. We have to keep trying."

Quintana also things the day didn't turn up the way they had expected. "We wanted to 'play' but the reality is that we didn't feel the way we wanted to," he explained. "The rhythm was very high throughout the entire day and we lost some seconds that I hope aren't too many, so we can keep fighting to win the race."

Valverde tried from early on the stage to make the difference, but it proved to be difficult. "We tried to surprise the peloton from far and we will have to thank Marc Soler for his big effort from the beginning by being part of the breakaway. Now we have to rest, recover and face the Alpe d'Huez."
