Gianni Moscon (Team Sky) has been disqualified from the Tour de France after hitting another rider at the start of the 15th stage of the race.

Fortuneo-Samsic has confirmed that Moscon hit Elie Gesbert 800 metres into the stage. The jury of Commissaires reviewed the images available of the incident and took a decision against the Italian.

Moscon appeared as disqualified in the official ranking of the Grande Boucle at the end of the 15th stage. As such, Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome lose one of their helpers ahead of the last week of the race.

The Italian has had other problems in the past that include racist comments against Kevin Reza and an alleged push against Sebastian Reichenbach at the 2017 Tre Valli Varesine that ended up with the Frenchman out of the race with several fractures.
