Arnaud Demare (Groupama-FDJ) has taken the victory at the 18th stage of the Tour de France. The Frenchman had the better team and the better legs at the final sprint.

The 171-kilometre stage featured a flat route between Trie-sur-Baïse and Pau. The breakaway of the day was formed in the first kilometre of the stage and included Niki Terpstra (Quick-Step Floors), Luke Durbridge, Mathew Hayman (Mitchelton-Scott), Guillaume Van Keirsbulck (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) and Thomas Boudat (Direct Energie).

Behind them, teams like Sky, UAE Team Emirates and Groupama-FDJ led the pace of the peloton until they managed to catch the escapees with 20 kilometres to go. The teams with sprinters set a high pace in the peloton with the goal of putting their main men in a good position ahead of the last kilometre.

Arnaud Demare had a perfect position and enough help to take the stage win ahead of Christophe Laporte (Cofidis) and Alexander Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates).

Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) arrived safely to the finish line and keeps the Yellow Jersey ahead of the last mountain test.
