Primoz Roglic secured a huge stage victory and gained valuable seconds on his direct rivals after attacking on the final descent of Tour de France stage 19.

The Slovenian of LottoNL-Jumbo looked strong on the climbs and even attacked several times on the Col d'Aubisque, but it wasn't until the downhill stretch to the finish that he made the difference.

"What can I say. I'm really, really happy. It's crazy. A really nice feeling," the rider said.

"Obviously I had the legs today. I really tried a lot of times and finally at the end I went away on the descent."

Roglic gained 19 seconds on his rivals, in addition to ten bonus seconds on Tom Dumoulin and Chris Froome, and four seconds on race leader Geraint Thomas. As a result, he now finds himself in third place at 2'24" from Thomas but just 19 seconds behind Dumoulin ahead of saturday's time trial.

"The time trial is made for me but it'll be the same for everybody," he warned. "We all start from zero and tomorrow is a new day with a new focus, and for sure I will give my best."
