Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale) has finished in the third position at the 19th stage of the Tour de France.

The Frenchman tried several attacks during the climbs of the stage but couldn't build a gap big enough to leave the favourites behind. "I did my best, and I believed in my chance for victory until the end," said the rider.

"On the descent, facing Dumoulin and Roglic, who are pure rouleurs, I realized that there was nothing more I could do. This Tour de France never quite smiled on me. I don’t know what more I could have done. It's disappointing, but sometimes it's like that."

Even though the rider couldn't have the role he wanted during the stage, he finished the stage satisfied with the job done. "I decided to go on the attack on the Tourmalet. I just wanted to have some fun," commented Bardet. "It was going to be this stage or never to go to the attack and try to make a big difference. In any case, I loved being a major player on the stage today."
