Geraint Thomas could not be happier after confirming his overall victory in the Tour de France, staying out of trouble on the final day in Paris.

With the overall win all but certain following Saturday's time trial, the Welshman only needed to finish the race on the Champs-Elysees in order to take home the trophy.

"It's unbelieveable," he said. "It's gonna take a while to sink in. Normally that stage is really hard but today I seemed to float around. It was goosebumps going around there. The support with the Welsh and the British flags... It's unreal, it's the Tour de France. To be riding around wearing this, is the stuff of dreams."

It hasn't been an easy Tour de France for Team Sky, although Thomas himself was never really in trouble throughout the weeks. The support of the team means a lot to him, he emphasized.

"With the boys, that's the main thing for the whole three weeks. We stuck together through some tough times and we really stayed strong and I owe them a lot."

Thomas made his Tour de France debut in 2007, growing to become a key helper for Chris Froome before eventually climbing on the top spot of the yellow podium himself this year. He will never forget the experience of that first time, however.

"I never suffered like I did then. Every day was a battle. I remember seeing the Eiffel tower for the first time riding on the Champs Elysees, just getting goosebumps being on the other side of that camera lens. Rather than being at home watching it I could see the camera swinging around tracking us.

"And now, it's just another level to win. It's insane."
