Bora-hansgrohe's Pascal Ackermann has taken the victory at the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic. The rider crossed the finish line ahead of Elia Viviani and Giacomo Nizzolo.

The only WorldTour race in Britain was 187 kilometres long in and around the city of London. The race started with an escape that included riders like Caleb Ewan (Mitchelton-Scott), Manuele Boaro (Bahrain Merida) and Alexis Gougeard (AG2R La Mondiale.

This group was caught at 70 kilometres from the finish and the peloton rode compact until Jay McCarthy and Peter Kennaugh made a move with other five riders and build a considerable gap with the peloton. The escapees were reeled back in at the 10-kilometre mark and the sprint trains organised themselves to work for their main men.

The Bora-hasgrohe train was the most efficient and put Ackermann in a good position, from which he launched his sprint and took the victory ahead of Elia Viviani (Quick-Step Floors) and Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo).

"Today was a hard race, the rain made the course really dangerous I crashed with 80km to go and had to change my bike," the rider explained. "As we came into the finale, Rudi (Rüdiger Selig) and Pfingsti (Christoph Pfingsten) bought me into a perfect position, I waited and started my sprint and finished it off with my third WorldTour victory in this season. I am more than happy."

The Prudential RideLondon Classique, the women's version of the race, took place the day before and was won by Kristen Wild (Wiggle High5). Marianne Vos (WaowDeals Pro Cycling) and Elisa Balsamo (Valcar PBM) were second and third on the race.
